The Trusted Option
For an Engineer, the most reliable and trusted fallback option when doing anything is called Restart. This was an awesome innovation. Here are few examples and scenarios confirming the same.
The Trigger point
I believe you had the opportunity to see the computers of last couple of decades especially early 1990. You might remember that there was a power button on the desktops. Besides that there was one more usually smaller button called restart.
The need or requirement
Before the AI (Artificial Intelligence) era, we as humans were smart and the systems used to be idiots or dumb. The computers or the Desktops had a common problem of freezing (or Hanging) , heating or simply not working as expected. Which is less visible in the modern systems.
The Propagation
This technique has been being copy pasted to other areas machines as well apart from just with stupid systems like Computers / Desktops. For Example, If Air Conditioner of your room is not working or not cooling enough, people suggest and follow the similar path. i.e. to restart it as if Air Conditioner forgot to get the Compressor turned on due to some reason.
This also applies to the so called Smart Portable devices which we carry all day with us, named as Smart Phones. Currently we do have the issues in these devices when we see that the Mobile is not responding or its freezed, Sim not detected, Network unavailable or behaving strangely. First troubleshooting we do is simply restarting the phone.
However, This has technique has also touched the human relations as well. This is observed in humans. If the relations are not working between two persons, They start all over again from scratch and try to rebuild relations. Erasing all the bad memories and starting afresh.
Modularity
Now the Restarting can be at different modularity as well. We have multiple buttons for different functions now a days. For example, if, on a mobile internet is not working, then we may just restart Wifi scanning. We can also do the same and restart Location search.
